Last night the Richmond City council voted 5-2 to abandon plans for a $1 billion casino resort project at Point Molate.  This is a major victory for the citizens of Richmond and the conservation interests who showed up last night en masse to make their voices heard.  A big thanks to everyone who came out to show their support.  Once council-person’s count noted three times more people spoke against the casino than for it, and the council certainly took notice.  This is the end of the long fought first chapter of development at this unique location.  EBCNPS will continue to watch this project and work to ensure that the precious natural resources of this site are considered in any future project the city considers.  We will keep our members up to date as the next step becomes more clear in the coming months.
